THE  HOLY  SPIRIT,  part  2  quotes

1)    What other characteristics does the Bible reveal about the Holy Spirit showing Him to be a Person and Being other than God - the Father and God - the Son?

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.” 2 Corinthians 13:14.

This verse reveals that the Holy Spirit Himself communes with us.

“But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.  For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:10-11.

These verses reveal that the Holy Spirit searches all things pertaining to God, and then reveals these truths to us.

2)     “That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.” Romans 15:16.

This verse reveals that the Holy Spirit sanctifies God’s followers.

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” John 3:5-8.

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost”. Titus 3:5.

These passages reveal that the Holy Spirit is the source of cleansing, regeneration and renewal so that God's people can be born again, obtain salvation and be able to enter into eternal life.

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.  Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:9-11.

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit”. 1 Peter 3:18.

These passages reveal that the Holy Spirit Himself can make alive or resurrect the fruits of righteousness within the life of one who was once dead in sins, and also that He can literally make alive or resurrect the faithful dead from their graves.

3)    “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered....the Spirit...maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God....Who is he that condemneth?  It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” Romans 8:26-27, 34.

These verses reveal that the Holy Spirit helps our infirmities, and is another Intercessor other than Christ.  This because the Holy Spirit intercedes for us before God through prayer, while Christ intercedes for us through His precious blood, merits and righteousness.

“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Peter 1:21.

This verse reveals that the Holy Spirit is actually the author of the Bible, because He was the One who moved upon the prophets to speak, and from whose writings the Bible was composed.

“But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?...Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.” Acts 5:3, 9.

These verses reveal that the Holy Spirit can be tempted or tested and even lied to, but is too wise to be deceived.

“Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.  And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.” Matthew 12:31-32 (see also Mark 3:28-29, Luke 12:10).

These verses reveals that the Holy Spirit can be blasphemed, spoken against, and sinned against, and also shows why both Ananias and his wife lost their physical and eternal life.

4)    “And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.  But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.” Acts 8:39-40.

These verses reveal that the Holy Spirit Himself literally picked up a servant of God and moved him from one area to a completely different area, so that the spreading of the truth could more quickly occur.  And this truth was recognized as being possible even during Old Testament times (see 1 Kings 18:12; 2 Kings 2:16)!

5)    As the Bible has clearly proven that the Holy Spirit is indeed a Person and Being Himself, other than the Father and the Son, then He should also be able to assume form and shape.
“Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him”. Luke 3:22-23 (see also Matthew 3:16 and John 1:32).

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”  Acts 2:2-4.

These passages reveal that the Holy Spirit assumed the form and shape of a dove, as well as tongues of flaming fire.  This fact of truth can help us understand why the Holy Spirit itself is sometimes referred to as being non-gendered, because a dove and tongues of fire are both non-personal forms.
