UNDERSTANDING TRUE BIBLE FELLOWSHIP and FAITH, part 5 quotes
1) Understanding True Bible Faith
3rd Pillar – the Temple of God in Heaven, or the Heavenly Sanctuary
As October 22, 1844 had come and gone without Christ returning to cleanse the Sanctuary or the earth with fire, and after the passing of the remaining weeks and months of 1844 had gradually calmed the emotional disappointment of the remaining few Advent believers, their thoughts turned to what had gone wrong. They discovered that there was nothing wrong with either the beginning or the ending dates of these prophecies. So then the question of why didn’t Christ come to cleanse the Sanctuary or this earth with fire led these believers to earnestly pray to God for help to understand where they went wrong. In answer to their prayers God mercifully led them to begin studying more deeply into the subject of the Sanctuary of God. And it was during their research into the Sanctuary that they finally discovered their mistake, and then understood why Christ had not come to the earth on October 22, 1844 to cleanse it as they believed He would.
They saw in Exodus chapters 25-27, 30 that the Sanctuary of God on this earth was composed of 2 different apartments (Exodus 26:33). The first apartment of the Sanctuary was called the holy place, and it was entered into through a door or veil (Exodus 26:36). Once inside there was seen a golden Candlestick of 7 lamps on the left side, a golden Table of Shewbread with 12 loaves of bread stacked in two rows of 6 each on the right, and then directly ahead and just before the entrance door or veil into the second apartment was the golden Altar of Incense (Exodus 26:35, 30:6).
They also saw that the second apartment of the Sanctuary was called the most holy place (Exodus 26:34). After passing through its door or veil, and just to the side of it was seen the golden Censor of Incense, and then directly in front was seen the golden Ark of the Covenant. This ark was built like a box, and inside of it were placed the 10 commandments written by the finger of God Himself on two tables of stone. The lid of this ark was composed of a golden mercy seat, and on either end of it was situated two golden Cherubim angels whose wings were stretched out on high and touched each other, thus forming an open space above the mercy seat (Exodus 25:10-21). And it was in this open space that the Lord God manifested Himself in glory (Exodus 25:22).
Note: If you would like to learn the spiritual significance of some of the many things connected with the Sanctuary, we did a major 4 part series on the Sanctuary here in this home church beginning back in March of 2013, and we discovered some truly awesome spiritual insights and truths! So please visit our website under the recorded archives section of Sabbath sermons, and begin looking in March of 2013 to learn more.
2) While these few remaining Advent people continued studying into this earthly Sanctuary and Temple of God, they discovered something truly amazing! This earthly Sanctuary was not the only Sanctuary of God, but it was just a copy of and patterned after the original Sanctuary of God which was located in heaven!
“And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it....And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was showed thee in the mount....And thou shalt rear up the tabernacle according to the fashion thereof which was showed thee in the mount.” Exodus 25:8-9, 40, 6:30.
“And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the LORD had showed Moses, so he made the candlestick.” Numbers 8:4
“Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.” Acts 7:44.
“Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern showed to thee in the mount.” Hebrews 8:5.
3) As the earthly Sanctuary was patterned after the fashion of the heavenly Sanctuary, and since the earthly had 2 different apartments, then so the heavenly Sanctuary also had to have 2 different apartments. It then dawned upon them that as the earthly Sanctuary had to have a high priest who officiated in its sacred services, then this meant that the heavenly Sanctuary also had to have a high priest who officiated in the sacred services connected with it! As they searched through the Scriptures to try and identify who this high priest of the heavenly Sanctuary was, they saw that it was non-other than Jesus Christ Himself!
“Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly [earthly] sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first [apartment], wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the showbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. Now when these things were thus ordained, the [earthly] priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. But into the second [apartment] went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first [earthly] tabernacle was yet standing: Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation [when the New Covenant was brought in]. But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle [in heaven], not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building [earthly sanctuary]; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place [first apartment in heavenly Sanctuary], having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament [Old Covenant], they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens [the earthly sanctuary] should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands [earthly sanctuary], which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us [in the heavenly Sanctuary]: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” Hebrews 9:1-26.
