IS THE HOLY SPIRIT A GOD? - part 2 quotes
1) “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.” 2 Corinthians 13:14.
We see by this Scriptural truth that the Holy Spirit Himself holds communion with us.
2) “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:10-11.
We see by this Biblical truth that the Holy Spirit has knowledge, searches all things pertaining to Almighty God, and then reveals these precious truths to His followers on earth.
3) “That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.” Romans 15:16.
We see by this Scriptural truth that the Holy Spirit is the One who sanctifies God’s followers.
4) “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” John 3:5-8.
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” (Titus 3:5).
We see by these Biblical truths that the Holy Spirit Himself is the source of cleansing, regeneration and renewal so that we can be born again in Christ and obtain an entrance into heaven.
5) “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:9-11.
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18).
We see by these Scriptural truths that the Holy Spirit Himself can literally make alive or resurrect the faithful dead from their graves, as well as make alive or resurrect the fruits of righteousness within the life of one who was once dead in sins.
6) “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered....the Spirit...maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God....Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” Romans 8:26-27, 34.
We see by this Biblical truth that the Holy Spirit Himself helps our infirmities, and is another Intercessor other than Christ. The Holy Spirit Himself intercedes for us before God through prayer, while Christ intercedes for us before God through His precious blood, merits and righteousness.
7) “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Peter 1:21.
We see by this Scriptural truth that the Holy Spirit Himself is actually the author of the Bible, because He moved upon the prophets to speak from whose writings the Bible was made up.
8) “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?...Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.” Acts 5:3, 9.
We see by this Biblical truth that the Holy Spirit Himself can be tempted and lied to.
9) “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.” Matthew 12:31-32 (see also Mark 3:28-29, Luke 12:10).
We see by this Scriptural truth that the Holy Spirit Himself can be blasphemed, spoken against, and sinned against.
10) “And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.” Acts 8:39-40.
At times, the Holy Spirit Himself has literally picked up servants of God and moved them from one area to a completely different area so that the spreading of the truth could more quickly occur (see also Ezekiel 3:14-15; 1 Kings 18:12; 2 Kings 2:16). This conclusively proves that the Holy Spirit is not some essence, or power, or the mind of God, or some other non-personal force, but is an actual Holy Person and Being.
11) As the Bible has clearly proven that the Holy Spirit is indeed a Person and Being Himself, other than the Father and the Son, then He must also be able to assume form and shape.
“Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him” (Luke 3:22-23). (See also Matthew 3:16 and John 1:32.)
“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:2-4.
12) Can the Holy Spirit even assume the form of an actual living Being and Person?
“He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand. And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brazen altar. And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side; And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house....And, behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.” Ezekiel 9:1-6, 11.
In these Bible verses, you see a particular Being in the form of a man, who is dressed in linen garments just like a priest (Leviticus 6:10, 16:32), and who also had a writer’s inkhorn with which to place a mark or seal upon the foreheads of the servants of God who are exposing all the abominations that were occurring within the church of God’s professed people. And all those who were not sealed by this holy Being were not saved, but were destroyed.
Does the Bible give any other information regarding this holy Being in the form of a man who is dressed like a priest and whose work is to seal God’s servants?
“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30.
This holy Being in the form of a man who is dressed as a priest who Ezekiel saw and whom the Lord God personally commanded to go forth and seal all of God’s servants with His mark in their foreheads, is actually the Holy Spirit Himself taking the form and shape of a man!
13) Are there any other places in the Bible of truth that reveals the Holy Spirit Himself taking the form and shape of a man dressed as a priest?
“For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually....And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he Melchisedec liveth. And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec....
“By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament...because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:1-3, 15-17, 22, 24-25.
Melchisedec could also not have been Christ Himself, because Christ was made a priest after the order of Melchisedec, and not after His own order. And neither could Melchisedec have been the Father Himself, because no human has seen the Father at any time (see John 6:46; 1 John 4:12), and yet Melchisedec was seen by humans. So then if Melchisedec was not a human being, and was not either Jesus Christ or God the Father, and neither could he have been an angel, because angels do not have eternal life but are created beings and therefore have God as their Father, then the only other possible Being that Melchisedec could have been was the Holy Spirit Himself!
So it should be clear that the Holy Spirit Himself assumed the form of a man, just like He did in Ezekiel’s vision, and then represented God on the earth during the time of Abraham, appearing and speaking to many as Melchisedec – the King of Salem, the King of peace, the King of Righteousness, the priest of the most high God. And the Holy Spirit is still today ministering as our priestly intercessor before God Almighty, in addition to the intercessory priestly ministry of Jesus Christ!
14) The Bible has clearly revealed that the Holy Spirit is indeed a Person and Being other than the Father and the Son; that the Holy Spirit has a distinctive personality all his own; and that He has assumed various forms – including human, throughout the history of this earth. Then it should then be completely clear that the Father is not the Holy Spirit, but the Father uses the Omnipresence of the Holy Spirit to represent and bring Himself to us. Thus the Father sends the Holy Spirit, calling it His Spirit – or the Spirit of the Father; but the Father Himself is not the Holy Spirit.
It should also be completely clear that Christ is not the Holy Spirit either, but the Holy Spirit represents Christ to us. Thus Christ can send the Holy Spirit – His representative – calling it His Spirit, or the Spirit of Christ; but Jesus Himself is not the Holy Spirit. In fact, Christ had the Holy Spirit given to Him while He as living on this earth (see Luke 4:18-19)!
Jesus is not the Holy Spirit, but needed to have the Holy Spirit given to Him in order to be our perfect example while on this earth. And since Jesus lost His Omnipresence by taking humanity, He must now use the Omnipresence of the Person and Being of the Holy Spirit in order to meet with His people on earth. Thus through the Omnipresence of the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ would be set free from the limiting affects of humanity, and thus could be present and represent Himself at all times and in all places among His people.
The Holy Spirit is also not an angel or another name for the work of the angels. Neither was the Holy Spirit only in existence since Christ became human, because we discovered that the Holy Spirit was involved in the creation of this earth (see Genesis 1:2), and He was also from the very beginning of the work of redemption moving upon the hearts of men and women – reproving them “of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8). Neither is the Holy Spirit just a power, or force, or essence, or mind of God – the Father, but is a living Person and Being with His own personality. The Holy Spirit bears His own witness, gives His own comfort to us in Christ's place, and acts in His stead. The Holy Spirit Himself teaches and enlightens us by using His own mind. The Holy Spirit puts forth His highest energies in working for our salvation by taking the words of Christ and infusing these words of life into our hearts thereby making us come alive to live by every word of God. So you can clearly see that the Holy Spirit is as much a Person and Being as God – the Father and God – the Son Jesus Christ are Persons and Beings. Therefore to deny that the Holy Spirit is a Person and Being of His own, would be the same as denying that God and Jesus are Persons and Beings of their own!
15) Does the Bible declare that the Holy Spirit is a God Himself?
“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? Psalms 139:7.
“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.” Joel 2:28-29.
We see by these Biblical truths that the Holy Spirit Himself can be everywhere at once, and thus is Omnipresent – which is a particular attribute that can only belong to a God!
16) “And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.” Isaiah 11:2-4.
“For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.” Luke 12:12.
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26.
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth...and will shew you things to come.” John 16:13.
We see by these Scriptural truths that the Holy Spirit Himself is all wise and all knowing, and thus is Omniscient – which is a particular attribute that can only belong to a God.
17) “By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens” (Job 26:13).
“Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.” Psalms 104:30.
“Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.” Isaiah 40:13-15.
“Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God” (Romans 15:19).
We see by these Biblical truths that the Holy Spirit Himself is all powerful, and thus is Omnipotent – which is a particular attribute that can only belong to a God.
18) “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:14.
We see by this Scriptural truth that the Holy Spirit Himself is eternal – a particular attribute that can only belong to a God.
19) Does the Bible plainly declare that the Holy Spirit is indeed a God?
“But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost...why has thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.” Acts 5:3-4.
20) What consequences are there in denying that the Holy Spirit is a divine Person, or a divine Being and a God other than both the Father and the Son?
“Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.” Acts 8:14-17.
“And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. “ Acts 19:1-6.
These facts of Biblical truth clearly tell us that those early Christian believers, who did not know that the Holy Ghost actually existed, did not have the Holy Spirit's power in their lives. And it will be the same for any one today if they do not understand and believe that there is indeed a living, third divine Person and Being and a God in the Godhead whose name is the Holy Spirit!
If the Devil can just get you to believe that the Holy Spirit is not a God Himself, or that He is just an essence, or power, or mind of just one God, then he has succeeded in getting you to reject the Holy Spirit as a real third Person and third Being in the Godhead. So then how can you expect the Holy Spirit Himself to work in your life?
How can you really expect the Holy Spirit to regenerate and renew your spiritual life, or teach you the truths about the Almighty God and Jesus Christ, or open your understanding to all the truths in the Bible, if you do not know or may have even rejected that the Person and Being named the Holy Spirit really exists in the first place? You believe that the Holy Spirit is not a real living third divine Person or Being of His own – when He really is; you believe that He doesn't have a name or personality all His own – when He really has; and you believe that He does not have a mind and cannot think on His own – when He really does.
By your refusal to recognize the Holy Spirit as the third distinct, living holy divine Being and a God of the Godhead, thus believing that He doesn't exist, you are really denying Him, insulting Him, grieving Him, doing despite to Him, and cruelly rejecting Him! And Christ specifically commands His followers not to do any of these things against the Holy Spirit Himself, or you risk committing the unpardonable sin, and being hopelessly lost! (See Ephesians 4:30; Hebrews 10:29; Mark 3:28-29; Luke 12:10; Matthew 12:31).
